Realising the Benefits of Formal Methods
What are the real benefits of formal methods and Why should we care about them? When and Where should we expect to use them, and Who should be involved? I suggest some answers to those questions and describe one approach, Correctness by Construction [1], that has achieved practical success on several real industrial developments. Based on this I propose some challenges for formal methods research.
متن کاملOne-dimensional Formal Groups
In this Wednesday night section for Algebraic Number Theory, we will go through basic facts about one dimensional formal groups and hopefully get to see how they might be useful and interesting. All rings are commutative with identity. The sources of this material are my notes from Elliptic Curves, a course taught by Tom Fisher at Cambridge last year, J. Silverman’s Elliptic Curves Book. A few ...
متن کاملFormal groups over Hopf algebras
The aim of this section is to define some generalization of the notion of formal group. More precisely, we consider the analog of formal groups with coefficients belonging to a Hopf algebra. We also study some example of a formal group over a Hopf algebra, which generalizes the formal group of geometric cobordisms. Recently some important connections between the Landweber-Novikov algebra and th...
متن کاملFormal Groups over Discrete Rings
In this note we develop a theory of formal schemes and groups over arbitrary commutative rings which coincides with that of [5] if the base ring is a field, and generalizes that of [2]. We assume always our base ring is discrete and treat a formal scheme (resp. group) G, with two principal tools: A topology on the affine algebra (9(G) allows us to form its continuous linear dual B(G), the coalg...
متن کاملFormal Deformation of Chow Groups
Especially notable here is Spencer Bloch’s semi-regularity paper [B]. The advantage of this approach is that one can use the full strength of the deformation theory of subvarieties. One might similarly ask whether there is a family of algebraic cycles {Zt}t∈B deforming Z; some first steps toward an infinitesimal theory for this problem were the subject of [G-G2]. A third possible context, which...
